Our sports injury clinic is located in Leicester, book a treatment now and let’s get you back to your brilliant best in 3 simple steps:
Targeted Treatment to Ease Pain
Although sports massage is not solely for sports injuries, it can definitely help in some cases. When your injury affects your soft tissue or you are holding a lot of muscle tension in your neck, shoulders or back, or are in pain, we may recommend a sports massage to help relax and ease your symptoms. Our expert team of sports massage therapists will ensure you receive the correct treatment for your symptoms.
However, you may be experiencing pain, but not through a sporting related incident. You may have tightness around your neck and shoulders, due to stress, long hours working at a desk, poor posture, or an “old injury.” Our expert targeted treatments will help get to the root cause of your symptoms, so you are in less pain and discomfort.
After your initial consultation, you will receive an in-depth assessment, followed by a tailored deep tissue massage and rehab plan, all included in your first session! Our therapists may also give advice on posture, hydration and ergonomics – to support you in your recovery.
Sports Taping
When carrying a sports injury, it is often beneficial to use sports taping. Taping can help by limiting movement of the area, provide support and stability, while helping to reduce swelling. Using sports taping can also be beneficial after recovering from your injury as it gives some protection from injuring yourself in the same way again.
Sports taping can sometimes be referred to as physio taping or athletic taping, although there are a couple of different types of taping available.
Firstly, Sports taping can help with rehabilitation, after a sports injury. It’s usually used in a clinical setting (in our Leicester based clinic) and is included within your sports massage session (if indicated).
Secondly, we may also use Kinesiology taping. This is often a brightly coloured tape and elasticated – making it generally more comfortable than sports taping. It’s proven to have several benefits such as reducing muscle fatigue, improving blood flow and lymphatic drainage, which supports the healing process.
Sports Taping Vs Kinesiology Taping
Ultimately both sports taping and kinesiology taping are similar. The difference being that sports tape is stronger and stickier and is best suited for an active injury. Kinesiology tape is more flexible and comfortable, and is the better option for the prevention of further injury. Both are available at our Leicester clinic and are included within your treatment session (if indicated).
Sports Injuries FAQ's
What is the best treatment for a sports injury?
The best treatment will depend on type and location of your injury. After we conduct a full consultation and assessment with you, a treatment and rehabilitation plan will be put together specifically for your needs. Depending on your injury your treatment may include: sports massage, stretches, exercises or taping. We also use a range of medical devises (WINBACK and LymphaTouch) to enhance your treatment recovery. Your exercises will be emailed to you, with descriptions and videos of each exercise. You can then print your exercises out at home and keep a track on how many you have completed.
How long does a sports injury take to heal?
Again, that depends on the type of injury you have and where it is located. There is no “one size fits all” recovery plan, every person and every injury is different. Rest assured that if you follow the plan we create for you, it will be your fastest road to recovery.
Does Sports Massage hurt?
Sports massage may cause a little discomfort. This is because we need to work on muscles and joints surrounding your injury to target the problem area. Different stretches and movements that we perform may feel a little uncomfortable at first, but will ease once your body adjusts.
Our team at HLP Therapy are dedicated to seeing you recover well. We use the latest technology and best practice to help you achieve your health goals.
Which treatment session do I need to book?
We offer 30mins and 60minutes sports massage treatments. If this if your first treatment with us, we recommend booking a 60minute treatment session. This ensures we cover everything in the time allowed, to get you on the road to recovery. Any follow up sessions needed, maybe shorter in length (depending on the severity of the symptoms).
Can I book in straight away, after my injury?
Depending on the type of soft tissue injury you have sustained, we recommend you wait for approx. 48-72 hours before booking in with us. This will allow some of the initial swelling and pain to reduce. Then we can get to work, ensuring the rest of your recovery is as straight forward as possible
